Ramnadi set to get new lease of life

Pune: On the eve of World Environment Day i.e. June 4 Mission Ramnadi Restoration - an initiative of Kirloskar Vasundhara will be launched near Khatpewadi lake. An action plan to restore Ramnadi was announced in a press conference held at Patrakar Bhavan on Friday.

A total of 12 founding members, in association with 39 bodies and around 15,000 students from Eco Ranger Club will be a part of this initiative by Kirloskar Vasundhara. The inauguration will be done by Mayor Mukta Tilak.

“There are 12 founding organisations who are a part of this initiative. Hence, we have divided the river into into nine stretches.”

“Responsibility for the coordination has been given to these founding organisations,” said Anil Gaikwad, Vasundhara Swtchata Abhiyan

The common action plan for all nine stretches is to do groundwater survey mapping, creating awareness among citizens who reside near Ramnadi, solid waste removal by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and plantation near the lakeside.

“We have visited all nine stretches and apart from the common action, there are specific actions designed for each stretch,” said Virendra Chitrav, Festival Director, Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival.

“We will also conduct a training programme for volunteers and the citizens who are interested in becoming a part of the this initiative to educate people about the ecosystem of Ramnadi,” added Chitrav.
