Indian Air Force Plane AN-32 Goes Missing From Jorhat, 13 On Board

A search operation has been launched to located the AN-32 aircraft that last made contact at 1 pm.

An AN-32 aircraft of the Indian Air Force has gone missing after it took off from Jorhat in Assam. 

PTI reported that no contact could be established with the aircraft after it took off at 1 pm. 

Efforts are on to locate the AN-32 aircraft, the IAF said in a tweet. ANI reported that the Indian Air Force launched a Sukhoi-30 combat aircraft and a C-130 Special Ops aircraft on the search mission.

NDTV reported that while the aircraft was supposed to land in the Mechuka airstrip in Arunachal Pradesh, the landing and take-off approaches to it were very difficult. 

The report said that aircraft was to fly over heavily forested terrain. 

Sources told PTI that eight crew and five passengers were on board the missing aircraft. 

IAF said that it is coordinating with the Indian Army, various government and civil agencies to locate the aircraft.
