‘Metro stations will need 5L litres water’

Pune:  Officials of the MahaMetro on Friday said they have written a letter to the Pune Municipal Corporation to provide five lakh litres of water on a daily basis once the five underground stations of the metro from Shivajinagar to Swargate start functioning.

Speaking on the issue, MahaMetro Executive Engineer Atul Gadgil said the department wanted to inform the PMC  well in advance about the need for water.

“We will need about one lakh litres of water per station on a daily basis to run the air conditioning system at respective stations. First, we need to inform the PMC about our requirements. If they fail to facilitate the need we can look at the option of groundwater usage if possible,” added Gadgil. 

MahaMetro is in the final stage of planning of the underground metro and will start the tunneling work in the month of November. 

Gadgil said they are currently in the process of completing the geotechnical and topological survey. 

“In our surveys we found that the underground stretch through which metro will pass is solid hard rock and so we will not face any problem. We are also in process of executing the building survey in which buildings within 50 metres of either stretch of the underground metro line will be checked. The details will be documented as people should not claim that their properties were damaged due to tunneling work for the underground metro stations. Similarly for safety reasons, once the tunneling work is in progress we will shift the residents of the building temporarily until the tunneling work is done,” added further Gadgil.
