Atiq Ahmad shifted to Sabarmati jail

ALLAHABAD: Don-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, whom no jail wants to house, was transferred from Naini prison in Uttar Pradesh to the high-security Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad on Monday.
The five-time MLA was shifted in compliance with the SC order after he was found running his criminal syndicate from behind bars. The apex court had taken cognisance of Atiq’s role in abduction of a Lucknow businessman and attack on him in Deoria jail last year. Atiq was taken to Varanasi via road from where he was flown to Ahmedabad. The UP administration had issued instructions to prison authorities to shift Atiq after getting a nod from the Gujarat government.
