MANGALURU:
Karnataka district minister
UT Khader on Monday took exception to attitude of branch managers of certain banks for denying loans to eligible beneficiaries on what he described are frivolous grounds.
Noting that he is aware of this development, Khader said the beneficiaries are of various schemes formulated by the government to empower sections of society that are economically backward and denying them loans hampers their progress.
Reviewing progress of various departments, Khader said many students from the economically poor background are largely dependent on education loans and other benefits offered through government schemes. Such students face confusion about schemes and means to obtain benefits from it. Bank officials at various levels must step in to clear the same to ensure that more beneficiaries benefit from the schemes formulated by the government, he added.
Responding to Khader’s plaint, deputy commissioner (DC) Sasikanth Senthil S assured that adalat type programme will be organised specifically to address issues that people face vis-à-vis the banking sector in general and government schemes in particular. The DC directed lead bank managers to furnish information regarding various loans disbursed and repayment as well as list of banks loans extended to beneficiaries under government schemes.
With sea erosion likely to cause havoc in Mukkacherri and Kaiko areas at Ullal in Mangaluru assembly constituency that he represents during monsoon, Khader directed officials of department of port to take urgent steps to minimise its effect. Noting that delay in onset of South West monsoon had caused disruption in drinking water supply to few areas, he directed MCC officials to arrange for 25 additional water tankers to supply water within city.
Khader also directed officials concerned to expedite various works taken up under the Nagarothana scheme, especially concreting of roads, construction of small markets and play grounds. Noting that pace of works under the scheme was slow, Khader instructed officials to complete the same within a month. Venkatachalapathy, additional DC, BH Narayanappa, commissioner, Mangaluru City Corporation and other senior officials were present.
