Leslie Arthur Faulkner has a criminal history spanning more than 30 years, and has spent a total of 15 years behind bars in prisons across Queensland.

The 67-year-old truck driver from Ipswich repeatedly re-offended whenever he was released in the past, and will now be required to reside in a restricted community.

Faulkner was charged with more than 40 offences involving girls aged between six and nine years old, beginning in 1988.

He received a 13-and-a-half year jail sentence for the crimes.

The offences included the rape and indecent treatment of multiple children, often luring them to him by offering to play with them.

His defence barrister Chris Minnery previously told the court Faulkner 'was not a sophisticated man'.

He was illiterate when he left school at 13 to go work with heavy machinery, and acknowledged he had a problem.

'It seems he is largely institutionalised. At the end of the 13-and-a-half years he was quite happy where he was and stopped applying for parole,' Mr Minnery said.

In the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday, Justice Peter Applegarth ordered Faulkner be released from jail, Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

Faulkner will be transferred to the Wacol dangerous prisoners' precinct, where he will be made to comply with a list of stringent supervision terms.

'This order will impose significant impositions on you, but if you can engage with the people who supervise it, you will progress towards some positive work in the community and establishing friendships with adults, which will help your own rehabilitation,' Justice Applegarth said.

There are currently seven homes in the Wacol precinct housing 15 former inmates on similar orders.

They have served their sentences but are still considered dangerous sexual offenders, and live in the community where they are monitored and can undergo treatment.

'Prison reserves are by far the best option to house offenders, because of their security levels and provision of rehabilitation programs,' Corrective Services Minister Judy Spence said.

'Any offender placed in this accommodation will be subject to intensive supervision and surveillance and be required to undergo treatment to address their offending behaviour.

'These reserves play an important role in that they enable certain offenders to remain at the accommodation for an extended period of time to receive treatment and demonstrate compliance before transitioning to the community.'
