Hyderabad: 2 women, 10-year-old boy drown in quarry

HYDERABAD: Two women and a 10-year-old boy drowned in a quarry on Sunday while washing clothes at Balaiah Nagar of Jagathgirigutta.

The deceased were identified as K Ayyamma (60), a resident of Yadgir in Karnataka, S Anitha (30) and her son S Yeshwanth (10), residents of Narayanpet district. Ayyamma had come to Hyderabad for her son’s house warming party. Anitha and her son had also come for the party. “After the function was over, Ayyamma along with Anitha and Yeshwanth went to a nearby quarry to wash clothes at around 11.30am.
Yeshwanth, who was playing nearby fell in the quarry and cried for help. Seeing him drowning, Anitha jumped into the quarry, which is about 30 feet deep, and drowned. “The elderly woman too jumped into the water to help, but she also drowned,” said Jagathgirigutta inspector Srinivasulu. A case of suspicious death was registered.
