THANE: Water-logging in the Vitawa subway on the Thane Belapur road is likely to pose problems for motorists travelling between Thane and Navi Mumbai in the
monsoon as Thane corporation is still grappling to find a viable solution to tackle the menace. A team of municipal engineers led by civic chief
Sanjeev Jaiswal inspected the subway on Thursday to find a solution to the perennial water-logging problem on the arterial connection between the lake city and Navi Mumbai.
It was proposed that metal sheets be placed over the pathway to facilitate a hassle-free drive over the accumulated water inside the subway. However, given the limited space available under the box type concrete railway bridge and no ground to undertake any corrective action, it was difficult to plan any bridge, an official said.
There is just 4.2 metres short road available and not more than three inches is available over the ground surface, it is difficult to use any conventional repair methods like RCC or PCC, explained an official. "We have tried several measures to stop the water logging in the subway. We are now planning to install steel plates from one side of the subway to the other which will ensure that the water does not seepe through them and flood the road. A final decision will be taken after meeting with the municipal commissioner," said an official from the Public Works Department, TMC.
Meanwhile, the corporation has claimed that it will install six heavy duty pumps at the subway to flush out water.
