250 persons booked by Nigdi police in arms act case

PUNE: Following the violation of arms act, around 250 Vishwa Hindu Parishad members were booked by the Nigdi police for allegedly brandishing air guns and swords during a procession in NIgdi on Sunday in Pimpri Chinchwad area.

As per information shared by Nigdi police, carrying of arms like swords and guns are prohibited as per Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner's order. 

Among those booked include VHP local President Sharad Inamdar, District President Dhanaji Shinde under relevant sections of the Arms Act and Bombay Police Act. 

Police officials said that the procession called as "Shobha Yatra", largely comprising women in Yamunanagar area was held even as their permission was denied by the police. 

Police said, five girls were spotted with swords and four girls had used air rifles in the procession.

Nigdi police is further investigating the case. No arrests were made in the case till Monday afternoon.
