Croatian Hypercar Maker Extraordinaire Rimac Shows Us Around Its Facility

Starting a car company from scratch is an exceptionally difficult endeavor – and that goes double for one that solely produces high-performance electric hypercars, yet that’s exactly what Mate Rimac has done.

Rimac was founded in 2009, approximately two years after Mate Rimac customized his BMW E30 3-Series to use an electric powertrain. In 2011, the car manufacturer unveiled the first prototype of its initial production vehicle dubbed the Concept One. The Croatian car company has been transformed in the years since, and in the video below, the company’s founder takes us through a tour of the brand’s facilities.

It first opened shop in Sveta Nedelja, Croatia, not too far from the city of Zagreb and remarkably, is still based at the same site a decade later even though its workforce has grown from 10 to over 500 people. As its CEO notes, Rimac is constantly expanding and altering its headquarters, and this particular clip has a particular focus on how the company makes many of the components of its upcoming C_Two, an electric hypercar with a combined 1888 hp and 1696 lb-ft (2300 Nm) of torque.

What is particularly impressive about Rimac is that it doesn’t just build its own cars; it also supplies powertrains to other companies, with the most famous being the Pininfarina Battista electric hypercar features the same powertrain as the C_Two. Aston Martin will also use a KERS hybrid battery system from Rimac for its Valkyrie hypercar while the Koenigsegg Regera also features batteries made by Rimac.
