The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had filed the plea in Supreme Court challenging the verdict of the Madras High Court. Political parties in the state have condemned the Central government for the appeal.
Anbumani said that he knew that the Union government will go for an appeal and so he had filed a caveat petition. “As I have filed the caveat petition, the apex court cannot pass judgment without hearing my appeal. I will argue against the project and will make sure that I get a favourable judgment for the farmers,” said Anbumani.
He also said that he will continue to stress upon the Union government to drop the project as there are already three highways between Chennai and Salem.
Anbumani, in a statement, said, “If the eight-lane project is implemented, more than 10 thousand families would be affected and so I filed a petition in the Madras High Court challenging the project. The High Court too stayed the project, but now the Union government had appealed in the Supreme Court against the High Court stay, I will continue to argue against the case.”
