Belagavi: Forest and environment minister Satish Jarkiholi inaugurated a workshop on bamboo cultivation and exhibition of bamboo products at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha here on Saturday. The National Bamboo Mission and forest department organised the daylong event.
Jarkiholi said that the government will announce subsidies for farmers to continue bamboo cultivation.
“A survey will be soon conducted to understand which breed of bamboo suits which kind of soil and weather,” he said.
The minister said that the Medar community will be issued passes to transport bamboo. The announcement comes after the community faced problems in transporting bamboo.

MLA Laxmi Hebbalkar said that bamboo has turned into a profitable crop for farmers. She said that bamboo also benefits the environment.
Additional chief conservator or forests R K Shrivastav said the government gives a subsidy of Rs 50,000 to farmers for bamboo cultivation.
