For the second consecutive year, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has failed to give students smart cards for subsidised travel by bus before the start of the academic year.
However, considering that schools and colleges for the present academic have already started, BMTC has said that students can travel in public buses using smart cards distributed last year. This facility will be extended till June 20.
“BMTC will soon start the issuance of smart card-based student passes for the year 2019-2020,” said a release.
Smart cards were introduced last year. The process saw chaos and confusion as many students had not received their smart cards even after the start of the academic year.
