MUMBAI: The education department has decided against allowing fresh applications for the next round of Right to Education Act
quota admissions. Changes to existing applications can be made till June 4, after which the lottery will be held.
The first round of admissions was done in April, through a lottery held in Pune. Of the 11,568 students who applied, 3,532 were allotted a seat. However, only 2,261 students secured admission. Several parents and activists’ groups had then requested the department to accept fresh applications. With the number of applicants already exceeding number of seats available, the department decided against it.
“Parents who filled the form but did not confirm it, can do so. Parents whose children were not allotted a seat in the first lottery because their residences were not mapped accurately, can make the required changes to their applications. Those who were allotted a seat in a school more than 3kms away from where they reside, may also alter the school selected by them, or change their address in the form,” read a circular issued by the department
