HYDERABAD: A six-year-old girl, who was confined to a house in Begum Bazar and subjected to cruelty allegedly by her father and grandmother, was rescued by members of the child welfare committee (CWC) on Friday. After being rescued, the girl was shifted to the state home.

Begum Bazar police said the girl’s hands and legs were tied. At the time of her rescue, the child welfare committee members found injuries on her body. Cops believe she was tortured to leave her Om Nagar residence as her father Shyam and grandmother wanted to get rid of her. The girl had lost her mother some months ago and her father was planning to marry again.
Locals came to know about the girl and alerted Balala Hakkula Sangham. Begum Bazar police inspector P Subbaiah said a criminal case would be registered based on a complaint filed by the child welfare committee.
