Cops arrest two in Panchkula Gymkhana Club firing case

PANCHKULA: On Friday, the Panchkula police have arrested two accused in the Gymkhana firing case.
The accused have been identified as Rohit Kumar, 27, a resident of Sector 7 and S Rajesh Kumar, 37, a resident of Sector 21, said the police. They were produced in the court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
Mansa Devi Complex (MDC station house officer (SHO), inspector Rajeev Kumar, said that the weapon was also recovered and has been sent for analysis to the forensic department. The weapon was licenced and registered in the name of Rajesh Kumar, added the SHO.
According to the SHO, at his wedding, Rohit and Rajesh had an altercation with the DJ over a song and, in a fit of rage, Rohit pulled out a gun and opened fire. "He probably was flaunting the weapon belonging to Rajesh on his wedding day."
On May 27, the DJ had a miraculous escape after he was shot at late in the night at the Gymkhana Club in Sector 1 near Saketri village.

According to Lalit Singh, a resident of Sector 19D in Chandigarh, who had lodged the complaint at MDC police station, his friend Rocky, the DJ of the club was playing music when the man identified as Rohit eventually demanded a particular song. When the DJ refused, the accused started hurling abuses at Lalit, who was sitting next to the DJ. When Lalit objected, the accused pushed him on to the floor and thrashed him in full public view. Later, the accused fired shots in the air from a pistol, an act that was recorded by Lalit on his mobile phone.
The police had registered a case under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter), 323 (punishment for voluntary causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (act done by several person with same intention) of the Indian Penal Code) and Sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at the Mansa Devi police station.
