MOHALI: The beat patrolling team (BPT) of
Mohali police have received the first batch of five motorcycles - of the 100-odd vehicles that will be distributed across the state.
The vehicles were flagged off by V K Bhawra, director general of police, Punjab, Dr Sharad Satya Chauhan, additional director general of police (traffic) Punjab and
Harbhajan Singh director, general & corporate affairs, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, at the sports complex in Sector 78 in Mohali.
Bhawra said that the motorcycles have been provided to give speed to policing in Punjab. Every vehicle has been provided with revolving flashers and blinkers, public announcement system, sirens, flash lights, two helmets and cruiser side box, he added.
Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harcharan Singh Bhullar said that the motorcycles will enable the team to reach destinations in colonies and congested areas faster. "Beat policing on motorcycles will also reduce the reaction time," he added.
Earlier Mohali police had also procured five scooters for women police which are being used to patrol schools, colleges and market areas, said the SSP.

The Mohali police will now be powered by 100 specially equipped LIVO motorcycles of Honda."
