Can you imagine how tough it must be to govern a nation with a population of almost 137 crore? A nation so diverse and variegated, it is full of souls who have their own different problems, and these problems have to be looked after by one unified body which is the Government of India.
To deal with various issues, the government has several ministries that look after a particular field of concern, like Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Home affairs, Ministry of coal, Ministry of Communications and many more which add up to form 51 ministries in the Central Government of India. Many of which are popular and more path changing than others, but there also a few which people are unware of.
Here are some ministries which you may have heard of but didn’t know what they were:
- Ministry of Earth Sciences: As per the official MoES website, it is mandated to provide services for weather, climate, ocean and coastal state, hydrology, seismology, and natural hazards; to explore and harness marine living and non-living resources in a sustainable way and to explore the three poles (Arctic, Antarctic and Himalayas).
Dr Harsh Vardhan has been appointed as the Minister of Earth Sciences in the new 2019 cabinet.
- Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation: This ministry was a result of a merger and deals with the quality and coverage of the statistics that the government collects and acquires. The data is collected by a dedicated field staff using scientific sampling methods.
Rao Inderjit Singh is the MoS (independent charge) of ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
- Ministry of AYUSH: It is was set up in 2015 to promote Indian traditional medical practices and Yoga. AYUSH is an acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.
Shripad Yesso Naik is the MoS (independent charge) of ministry of AYUSH.
- Ministry of Food Processing Industries: With processed food becoming a key part of the food industry it was important to have rules and laws which would make sure that these industries provide consumers food with high standards. This is responsible for the laws relating to food processing and formulation and administration of the rules and regulations in India.
Harsimrat Kaur Badal will be the minister of this department.
- Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship: This ministry was set up in 2014 and its sole purpose was to coordinate all skill development efforts across India. The Ministry of Labour and Employment transferred all its skill development responsibilities like industrial training, apprenticeship etc. to this newly made ministry.
Mahendra Nath Pandey is the minister was this developmental and encouraging department.
- Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region: This ministry focuses on the socio-economic development of the eight North-eastern states namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. It creates a pathway for the central government and its facilities to reach out to the State Governments.
