THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for AHD K Raju said that the government is planning to construct elevated
cattle sheds in
flood prone areas. Local self governments should come forward in identifying places to implement the project, the minister said while inaugurating the state level observance of world dairy day and workshop held in connection with the world dairy day here on Saturday. The government has allotted Rs 22 crores to implement flood relief measures in dairy and animal husbandry sector, said K Raju. "The activities are still going on. The work on projects in flood affected areas with the central assistance of Rs 43 crores will also begin soon," said K Raju.
"The government allotted Rs 107 crores for dairy sector in this year's budget. The department could undertake projects to the tune of over Rs 400 crores in 2018.
Kerala can be number one in dairy sector in the coming years," said K Raju.
The minister said that steps are underway to ensure the quality of cattle feed. It will be completed during the tenure of this government. Two checkposts have been opened at Meenakshipuram and
Aryankavu to prevent the transport of adulterated milk from other states to Kerala. The third checkpost will be opened at Parasala," the minister said.
