BHOPAL: Patients in a private hospital in Karond area, had a narrow escape when a fire broke out in its operation theater on Friday afternoon. The operation theater of Jeewanshree Hospital was up in flames after a short circuit in an air conditioners. The fire soon spread to other wards and chaotic seen were witnessed inside hospital as patients ran for their lives. It was timely intervention of two cops from an FRV and fire brigade that prevented the situation from turning worse. According to sources, the fire broke out at around 1:30 pm in the hospital.
The locals informed Nishtapura police and constable Sunder Singh Rajpoot reached there. Rajpoot said the fire had broken out on the second floor and it was smoke all around. He said the fire had spread in other wards and there was one patient on a bed. He rescued him with help of another cop Nagendra. Rajpoot further said the nearby relief team was informed and we dug out a portion of the wall of the hospital to pump water inside.
A team of fire brigade was also informed while Rajpoot and others continued with the relief work. Fire fighter Pankaj Yadav said the fire was doused with the help of three teams of fire fighters from nearby Chola Mandir fire station and Gandhi Nagar fire station. He said the fire was there was an hour and smoke had engulfed the area. The relief work went on for an hour and that portion of walls of hospital were broken at several places areas to pump water there. However, no other loss was reported from the area but those involved in the rescue work said that the hospital did not have fire safety arrangements.
