The Boston Cannons hold off a late surge by the New York Lizards and hold on for a 13-12 win on Saturday night before 5,025 spectators at Memorial Stadium in Quincy.

QUIMCY - The Boston Cannons came off the starting blocks fast, building a 5-1 lead over the New York Lizards in the Major League Lacrosse teams' debut at Quincy's Memorial Stadium on Saturday night before a sellout crowd of 5,025.

New York rallied over the last six minutes of the half, however, and the Cannons led by 7-5 at halftime. Boston attack Mark Cockerton had four goals in the first half.

The Lizards continued to rally in the third period as a pair of Dylan Malloy goals closed the gap to 9-8 going into the final frame.

Three quick Cannons scores pushed the home team's advantage to 12-9 with six minutes to play, and then Cannons top draft choice Zac Goodrich made it 13-9 with 4:20 to go. But New York scored three times in the final 3:13 to make the final moments tense before the Cannons clinched the 13-12 victory.

Duxbury High graduate Nick Marrocco went all the way in net for Boston.

"I played on this field many times in high school, " said Marrocco. "I was pretty thrilled to come back here as a pro, in front of a sold out stadium like this, and getting the win was even better."
