more-in

Health department has entered into an understanding with Gcare Diabetes Council, a non-governmental organisation, to convert all primary and suburban centres into wellness centres.

The NGO would provide kiosk machines at all centres to conduct medical investigations. All the investigations would be provided free of cost.

Under the agreement, the organisation would provide telemedicine facilities at all the centres. The units would be connected to specialists in district hospitals via video conferencing.

Director of Health and Family Welfare Services K.V. Raman said the initiative was taken under the National Rural Health Mission. While other State governments were only converting 10 to 30% of their primary and suburban centres, the Union Territory had decided to convert all its medical units. The MoU was signed by Mr. Raman and Chairman of Gcare Diabetic Council T.L. Nandagopal.
