7 climbers from abroad go missing, search ops on

PITHORAGARH: Rescue teams for the second consecutive day on Saturday conducted search operations for members of a mountaineering team wh-ich was on an expedition to the Nanda Devi East peak. The team, which includes seven mountaineers from the UK, US and Australia besides an Indian liaison officer from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), had left Munsyari on May 13 to scale the 7434-m peak.

They were scheduled to return to the base camp on Friday but when they didn’t return, the four members of the team who were at the base camp informed district officials and a search operation was launched to track them.
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel as well as Indo-ITBP jawans along with villagers are involved in the search .
