Will work to improve food processing in Northeast: Rameswar Teli

GUWAHATI: Two-time MP from Dibrugarh, Rameswar Teli, who has been inducted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet as Union minister of state for food processing industries, on Friday said that he would tap into the immense potential of the northeast to improve the food processing sector in the region.
After taking charge, Teli on Friday attended office, saying that he spent the day in understanding various schemes for food processing. Teli, who was sworn in on Thursday, is the lone minister from Assam in Modi's cabinet.
BJP this time won nine seats out of 14 in the state.
"Northeast has a huge potential for food processing and my focus will be on tapping into this potential. We can bring out a positive change to the lives of people in the region through food processing industries," Teli said.
Teli, who is from the tea tribe community and defeated Congress heavyweight Paban Singh Ghatowar from the Dibrugarh seat for a second successive term, said that PM Modi has always worked for the development of the northeast.
"I will put all my effort to ensure that various schemes for food processing industries are implemented properly which will help improve people's lives. We have to do a lot in the food processing sector. My first few days will be focused on understanding the various schemes of my ministry and how we can pursue their implementation," Teli said.

Teli, who is known for his simplicity, had said on Thursday that it was a matter of pride for him to have been inducted in the Union Cabinet.
"People voted me for a second term and I will live up to their expectations. I will do my duty to my country will all dedication," Teli said.
