AGRA: The
Samajwadi Party suffered a jolt in Hathras on Saturday after 16 out of the 25 zila panchayat members, led by suspended BSP leader and former
UP minister Ramveer Upadhyaya, moved a
no confidence motion against its president
Om Vati Yadav.
Four of the 16 zila panchayat members are from Ramveer Upadhyay’s family. They include his two brothers, Vinod and Rameshwar, and their wives, Saroj and Kalpana respectively.
Interestingly, in June 2017, majority of panchayat members had voted in favour of the no confidence motion that was brought against Ramveer’s brother, Vinod Upadhyaya, who had been elected president of zila panchayat in January 2016.
In an application to the Hathras district magistrate, the zila panchayat members wrote that they were unhappy with the working of present president Omvati, who is the wife of SP MLC from Harhras-Aligarh, Jaswant Singh.
Talking to media, Ramveer Upadhyay said that the panchayat members had moved the no confidence motion against Omvati and the DM will further proceed on it.
