CHENNAI: Metro train services will begin at 4.30am on Sunday to facilitate students appearing for civil services’ preliminary examination. Trains will be run as per weekday schedule starting from 4.30am to 11pm, but without peak hour frequency timings.
The
Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) officials said trains would operate on both the corridors from
Washermenpet to Airport and Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount with the frequency of 30 minutes from 4.30am to 6am. After 6am, trains will be available for every seven minutes in both the corridors. CMRL usually operates trains as per a separate Sunday timetable where the first train starts at 8am and the last train is at 10pm.
“We received a request from UPSC to start metro services early on Sunday to provide a easy commute for candidates appearing for the exam. Otherwise, we usually start at 8am,” a Metro rail official said.
Hundreds of aspirants are scheduled to appear for the UPSC preliminary examination that will be held on Sunday.
Civil services prelims will be held in 72 cities nationwide.
