PATNA: A 67-year-old
retired deputy secretary of the state legislative assembly,
Tara Chand Rajak, was found murdered inside his private residence at Ramjanki Chowk
in Patna City on Friday morning. Police said the decomposed body was found after local resident informed cops about a foul smell coming from the house.
“There was injury mark on his head which seems a result of attack from a hard blunt object used at weapon. In addition, a towel was found wrapped around his neck. The body was found lying on the bed with the entrance locked from outside,” Patna City ASP Balram Kumar Chaudhary said.
“Police gained entry inside the residence after breaking lock on main door. Suspicion is that someone known and close to the retired officer had murdered him almost five to six days back,” he said, adding prima facie property dispute has surfaced as a possible reason behind murder.
Chaudhary said Rajak had two wives, one of whom loved in Phulwarisharif, while the other wife is a resident of Harnaha Chowk under Chowk police station area. “He had no relations with both wives and his children for the past 12 years,” he said.
In another incident, criminals shot at a jeweller while attempting to loot his shop at Anand Bazaar under Danapur police station area in the evening. Four unidentified bike-borne armed men shot at jeweller Rakesh Gupta (35) twice when he raised alarm.
Danapur police station SHO Pradeep Kumar said Gupta received gunshot injuries on his hip and foot outside his shop when the criminals were trying to flee with ornaments looted from his shop on gunpoint.
“Hearing Gupta’s scream, locals gathered at the spot after which criminals opened fire targeting Gupta. However, he continued screaming after which another shot was fired which also hit him. Criminals fled while leaving behind bags filled with gold jewelleries on road,” he said, adding raids were on to nab the culprits. Gupta was under treatment at a private hospital and was out of danger.
