Nagpur: The Nagpur University (NU) has implemented central government’s higher learning scheme Swayam from 2019-20 academic session for post-graduation courses. Vice-Chancellor SP Kane has nominated associate professor Rekha Sharma as its coordinator.
Students and teachers can register themselves for any course, and after completion of which they will get certificate. The minimum qualification for them is issued on July 18, 2018 and other for information they can visit www.swayam.gov.in.
In order to make learning accessible to all, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has taken up Swayam, Swayam Prabha, National Digital Library, and National Academic Depository. Swayam and MOOCs digital initiatives for higher education. These are based pm 3 basic concepts i.e, Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere can attend the courses.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development had initiated the indigenous project Swayam (Study Webs of Active Learning) through MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). This platform has been started with a view to provide access to the best quality learning resources across the country. Through Swayam, student can virtually attend the courses taught by the best faculty and can access high quality reading material. Though courses will be online, the students can participate in discussion forums through video conferencing and can also appear in exam.
To ensure that best quality content are produced and delivered, nine national MOOC coordinators (NMCs) have been appointed and UGC is one of the NMC for developing online courses for non-technical post-graduation education. Through Swayam, regulation UGC has issued courses for students under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) were students can opt for an online course which should not exceed 20% of total credit in one semester. This unique feature of courses are for every semester, new courses shall be floated from June 1 to November 1. Hence, the university shall need to select the new courses in every semester.
