Man killed by bus near local pub in Melbourne's south east

A bus struck and killed a pedestrian on Saturday evening outside the Notting Hill Hotel along Ferntree Gully Road in Melbourne's South East.

It is believed the man was at a bus stop outside the pub near Monash University.

The 62-year-old pedestrian from Glen Waverley was treated at the scene but could not be saved.

It is believed that the man was struck by the back of the bus and the driver may not have been aware of the accident. They did not stop at the scene.

Police are not treating the case as a criminal hit and run.

Officers have found the bus involved and are waiting to speak with the driver.

The man's death brings the number of lives lost on Victoria's roads to 138, that is 50 more than this time last year.

Victoria police will prepare a report for the coroner.
