Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) keynote is all set to kick off on June 3rd and will end on June 7th. The event will take place at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California at sharp 10 am PT (10.30 pm IST). The keynote will be available for Apple fans to watch live on the Cupertino tech giant’s website. At the event, the company is expected to introduce the latest versions of its software platforms including iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. In addition, the brand is also rumoured to unveil an updated Mac Pro as well as its Marzipan project.
So if you’ve been eagerly waiting for the new Apple announcements, here are brief details on what to expect at the WWDC 2019 event next week.
iOS 13
The next-gen version of Apple’s software platform for iPhones and iPads will be the biggest highlight at the upcoming event. The new iOS will come with the much-anticipated Dark Mode, which will be available from Control Centre. The dark theme on iOS 13 is expected to be system-wide, just like what we have on the macOS. Notably, third-party app makers will be able to redesign their apps to take advantage of the dark mode.
As for the other new iOS 13 features, we are expecting the new OS to offer improved Screen Time capabilities with parental controls. The Find My Friends and Find My iPhone apps will be integrated into a single new app. The company will also introduce revamped versions of some of its core apps including Books, Mail, Messages, Maps, and Health. The Messages app will be getting support for profile pictures and better privacy options and apps such as Reminders and Files are also expected to have improved filters and better layouts. Notably, iOS 13 for iPad is said to come with new features to boost the workflow. We can expect multi-window support, side-by-side usage of a single app, and stackable, movable cards inside apps.
macOS 10.15
Talking about the new macOS version, it will have new features that will bring iOS and macOS closer than ever before. Part of its Marzipan project, macOS will make it easy for developers to port their iOS apps on Apple’s desktop platform. Another biggest highlight of the new update will be the support for using an iPad as a second screen for the Macs. With macOS 10.15 version, Apple is expected to break up iTunes into separate Music, Podcasts, Books, and TV apps.
In macOS 10.15 version Apple is also rumoured to bring support for Siri Shortcuts, Screen Time and Family Sharing app, window snapping, iMessage Effects, and a revamped Find My iPhone app. While the brand hasn’t confirmed the name of the new macOS, it is being speculated to be called Sequoia.
watchOS 6 and tvOS 13
Apple’s software platform for the Watch is expected to get a significant update at WWDC 2019. The new watchOS 6 software is expected to come with its own App Store for the Apple Watch. This will allow users to directly download apps straight to their wrists. The App Store is also said to come with a bunch of new watch faces and a host of new apps. The other rumoured new features of watchOS 6 include a medication-monitoring app Dose, menstrual cycle-tracking app Cycles, an audiobook app, a Calculator, Animoji and Memoji stickers, and more. Lastly, the Health app for the wearable is also expected to get new features.
As for the tvOS 13, the brand isn’t expected to announce major upgrades for the platform at the WWDC 2019 keynote. However, we expect to see some teasers and hype for the Cupertino tech giant’s upcoming TV+ service.
Mac Pro
Lastly, Apple is expected to introduce a new version of Mac Pro, which last saw an update around five years ago. The new Mac Pro is rumoured to be designed from scratch to be the perfect workstation for professionals. While many details regarding the specs are not available, we can expect the new Mac Pro to pack in high-end processors like the 9th-gen Intel Xeon processor.
That’s all for now folks. We will be present in California to attend the WWDC 2019 keynote to bring you all the details regarding the new Apple announcements, so stay tuned to 91mobiles.
