The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday imposed a ban on the use of mobile phones in the official meetings. As per reports, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered not to use mobile phones during the official meetings including the cabinet meetings. CM Yogi Adiyanath has said that the ministers should focus on issues that are discussed in the meeting rather focus on their mobile phones. The Chief Minister has further added that the ministers during the meetings have been seen busy by reading messages during the official meetings, which is a great concern and cannot be tolerated after the ban.

The latest order also reads that ministers should deposit their mobile phones at the designated centres and a token should be handed over to them which could be later exchanged by getting their mobile phones.

The decision is aimed at checking the possibility of leakage of information by hacking and other issues. The ban is said to be crucial as earlier minister used to bring mobile phones in the official meetings but had to keep silent or switched off.

The Union government had also banned the use of mobile phones in Cabinet meetings and ministers were asked not to carry mobile phones in official meetings. The instructions issued by the Centre then for the first time were issued after security agencies raised doubts over the phones that are prone to hacking. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has been trying to stop the misuse of information during the official meetings.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Khap panchayats had banned girls by keeping mobile phones. The panchayats had claimed that eve-teasing incidents increased in the state due to the use of mobile phones by unmarried girls.

The community also had banned the girls from using jeans. These kinds of diktats by khap panchayats in UP and other states like Haryana drew flak from several quarters.
