BHOPAL: Inexperienced principals in government run colleges have created confusion among guest faculty. One of the principals announced a break in service of guest faculty during summer semester break starting May 27. According to government order guest faculty can work for 12 months a year. They have to take part in all college activities including academic and non-academic works. But according to reports some principals are unaware of the rules and are creating confusion by contradictory orders.
For instance Principal of Government College, Lahar in Bhind district has issued order sending all guest faculties for a summer break from May 27 to June 15. The order was issued on May 27. On the other hand, Principal of Government College Seoni, issued a order on May 28 cancelling guest faculties summer break and has asked them to perform duties. In Rajgarh principal has issued another weird order directing guest faculties to come for examinations duty and prohibiting them to take any leave during these days. If faculty takes even a day’s leave, one will lose honorarium for the whole period, read the order. Principal of government college Rajgarh issued the order on May 24.
Observing confusion, additional director, higher education department, Rewa division issued an order clarifying that guest faculty can be appointed for a period of 12 months and all works including academic and non-academic will be taken from guest faculty. Owing to confusion, guest faculty from Bhind has written to the commissioner and their divisional regional director, asking them why they have been given marching orders when guest faculties in other colleges are working. A guest faculty, requesting anonymity said that principals of government colleges treat guest faculties with bias. If they do not dance to the tune of principals, guest faculty face harassment and financial punishment, he said.
