Thirteen dead in horror week on Queensland roads

A baby has survived but a young woman has died in a crash that has brought the number of people killed on Queensland's roads to 13 this week.

The 20-year-old woman was killed in a crash on the New England Highway near Crows Nest on Friday afternoon.

Two adults were airlifted to hospital and a baby also survived that incident.

Earlier, the death of a man who accelerated across a Gold Coast street, clipped a parked car and then crashed into a power pole brought the death toll to 12.

Police said the 90-year-old man had been trying to leave a garage on Lather Street in Southport on Thursday morning when he lost control of the car.

He drove through the closed garage door and across the street, hitting a parked car on the other side of the road and crashing into the power pole.

The man was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment for lacerations on his head and knee but died on Friday morning.

Eleven other people have been killed on Queensland's roads this week in a horror streak before an annual safety initiative, Fatality Free Friday.

Homicide detectives are involved in the investigation into Monday's crash.
