BJP wins Moodbidri, Sullia local bodies

Manglauru: The BJP has continued its success march in Dakshina Kannada district after winning the Lok Sabha polls recently. BJP bagged 34 out of 61 wards in the Moodbidri town municipality, Mulky town panchayat and Sullia town panchayat polls.
Out of the three urban local bodies in the district that went to polls, BJP has won a majority in two. While BJP got a majority in Moodbidri town municipality council and Sullia town panchayat, Congrees bagged more seats in Mulky town panchayat, but they will have to enter into a coalition with the JD(S) there to claim majority.
While Congress and BJP bagged nine and eight seats, respectively, in Mulky, JD(S) has won one seat in the local body. Hence, to win a majority in Mulky, where the total number of wards is 18, the Congress will have to seek support of JD(S) that has bagged one seat. Even if JD(S) supports BJP, the seat tally will be 9:9 for Congress and BJP in Mulky.
In Moodbidri, out of 23 seats, BJP has bagged 12 seats while Congress managed to win 11. In Sullia, which is considered as BJP’s stronghold, the saffron party has bagged absolute majority by winning 14 out of 20 seats. While Congress could bag only four wards of the town panchayat, independents won in two seats.
In Dakshina Kannada district, the BJP has maintained its Lok Sabha poll success by bagging 34 out of 61 seats of Moodbidri, Mulky and Sullia local bodies. While Congress bagged 24 seats, JD(S) could win in one and two wards were bagged by independents. Other than BJP, Congress and JD(S), no other political parties could win seats in the three local bodies.
