Indore: Minimum wages for labourers fixed


Indore: The state labour commissioner has fixed minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled labourers for next six months. Unskilled workers will be eligible to get Rs 7700.00 per month or Rs 296.00 per day while highly skilled workers will get Rs 11235.00 per month or Rs 432.00 per day. The average index for the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) under the Minimum Wage Act 1948 in the six months duration from July, 2018 to December 2018 stood at is 301 points.

State labour commissioner Ashutosh Awasthi informed that due to this, an average increase of 13 points has been registered in all India Consumer Price Index, which has been approved last month, resulting in a change of Rs 25.00 per point in variable dearness allowance (25×13) Rs 325.00 per month. Thus changing variable allowance from April 1, 2019, total payment of DA is 1500.00 per month or 57.69 per day.

According to the rates of Dearness Allowance declared by the Labour Commissioner, the minimum wages for next six months for the four categories of labourers employed in 67 scheduled private sector organisations are as fixed. Now the salaries of unskilled workers will be Rs 7700.00 per month or Rs 296.00 per day, semi-skilled workers Rs 8557.00 per month or Rs 329.00 per day, for skilled labourers Rs 9953.00 per month or Rs 382.00 per day and highly skilled workers will get Rs 11235.00 per month or Rs 432.00 per day.

For the labours employed in the agriculture sector, an increase of Rs 36.00 per month has been announced by the Labour Commissioner. On the basis of this, the unskilled labourers are eligible for a wages of Rs 6154.00 per month or Rs 205.00 per day, including dearness allowance from April 1, 2019 to 30 November, 2019.

The labours employed in bidi industries, minimum wages for bidi roller will be Rs 88.31 per thousand bidis. In addition to the minimum wage, bidi workers will be eligible to get payment of Rs 4.42 for holiday and bonus of Rs 7.72 per thousand bidis. Provident fund deduction will be Rs 18.54, after which a thousand bidis will be made on the net amount of Rs 91.18.
