Prime Minister Modi will meet the leaders of BIMSTEC, Mauritius and Kyrgyzstan today. He will hold talks with Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering. Myanmar’s President U Win Myint flew back on Thursday.
The Central Statistics Office will release today the GDP estimate for the fourth quarter (January-March 2019) and provisional annual estimates for 2018-19. The CSO pegged the third quarter GDP growth at a 15-month high of 7.2 per cent.
The Congress will convene a meeting of opposition parties today. In the meeting, the parties are likely to discuss the reasons for their defeat and also their strategy for the upcoming Parliament session which is likely to begin from June 6.
US Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Clarke Cooper will visit New Delhi today for talks on bolstering bilateral defence ties, including maritime security and supporting India’s role as a “major defence partner”. Cooper will hold talks on defence cooperation and peacekeeping after attending a conference in New Delhi from May 31 to June 2.
The second match of the Cricket World Cup will be played today between West Indies and Pakistan. The Windies will see the return of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell. The Pakistani side, which is headed by Sarfaraz Ahmed, lost the recently concluded ODI series against England 4-0.
