Night curfew along interstate borders to thwart rebel activities

JORHAT: At a time when there are reports of militant groups like Ulfa(I) and NSCN(K) stepping up their activity along the border areas in Golaghat, Jorhat, Charaideu and Sivasagar, the district magistrates of Jorhat and Charaideu on Wednesday imposed night curfew along the Assam-Nagaland and Assam-Arunachal Pradesh interstate borders to control terror activities in the region.
The night curfew will be operative within a radius of 5km from the interstate borders from 6pm to 5am. The order came into force with immediate effect and will continue until further notice.
Jorhat and Charaideu shares a vast portion of interstate border with neighbouring states of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.

Talking to TOI, Charaideu DC Dipok Kumar Handique said, "The order has been imposed to prevent militant activities along the bordering areas. The militant groups generally take shelter along the bordering areas. We imposed the night curfew as a precautionary measures to control rebel activities here."
The Jorhat district administration stated, "There is a fear that militant groups might carry out subversive activities along the interstate border areas. To prevent such activities, night curfew has been imposed with immediate effect."
