Newly elected MP Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti
Kanpur: Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti became the first member of Parliament from Fatehpur to be inducted into the Union cabinet for the second consecutive term on Thursday, triggering off celebrations among her supporters in the district.
Sadhvi had served as the minister of state for food processing industries in the previous government.
Sadhvi was born in 1967 in Patewra village in Hamirpur district. Due to social and spiritual nature since childhood, only at the age of 14, she went to the ashram of Bramhalin Pujya Gurudev Swami Achyutanand ji Maharaj and got initiated and propagated religion in the country under Pujya Yugpurush Mahamandaleshwar Swami Parmanand Giri Ji Maharaj. After becoming a sanyasin, while following path of her spiritual journey, she got formal education upto 12th standard and became active in social life.
After coming in contact with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in 1987, she actively participated in Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement and travelled all over the country and spread awareness. She then joined BJP.
Basically, she was a ‘kathavachak’ (story-teller) and for the first time in 2002, unsuccessfully contested from Hamirpur (UP) legislative assembly constituency as BJP candidate. In 2012, she contested from Hamirpur (UP) legislative assembly constituency as a BJP candidate and became a MLA by winning the election by record votes.
Anticipating her inclusion in the UPA government, her local supporters had gathered outside party office in Bindki area of the district since morning. As soon as the news of her induction in the cabinet came in, celebrations kicked off among the city residents and supporters alike.
The visibly delighted supporters distributed sweets amid beating of drums and burst crackers to showcase their happiness.
Sushant Gupta, a local of Bindki Fatehpur, termed Sadhvi’s induction “well deserved”. “Her political journey from a small time BJP worker to MLA and then to member of Parliament is remarkable. Known for her love for spirituality, she has rendered wonderful service while serving as a minister of state for food processing industries in the previous government,” Gupta said.
Now that the Fatehpur MP has been inducted into the Union cabinet, she should get things moving in the positive direction. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti should help Bindki residents of Fatehpur by expediting major projects majorly a railway station in Bindki.
Despite repeated attempts of locals, a railway station remains an unfulfilled dream. The locals had to catch train from Chaudagra, located at a distance of 15 kms from Bindki. But now, every resident is looking towards Sadhvi in the hope that she will seriously take up the issue of rail connectivity of Bindki with the rest of India.

An excited BJP ‘parshad’ (counsellor) from Uttari Bazar ward, Ramji Gupta said the induction of Sadhvi into the cabinet for a second consecutive term was “significant”.
“This is a matter of pride for every Fatehpur resident since for the first time since Independence, an MP from this constituency has succeeded in getting second term as a minister in the Union government and help Fatehpur get recognition at the national level.”
