Nirmala Sitharaman was sworn-in as a Cabinet minister on Thursday for the second term in the Narendra Modi government.
Under her ministership during the previous term of the NDA Government, the surgical strike inside the Pakistan territory of Balakot took place. The strike came in response to the ghastly terror attack in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.
An articulate person, she is also an impressive speaker and defended the government forcefully in Rafale deal during her reply to a debate in the Lok Sabha. As Defence Minister, she took the prestigious Defexpo exhibition to Chennai last year.
Prior to serving as Defence minister, Ms Sitharaman served as the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry. Prior to that, she has served as a national spokesperson for the BJP.
Earlier, she has served as an assistant to Economist in the Agricultural Engineers Association in UK.
During her stay in UK, she had also served as a Senior Manager (R&D) for Price Waterhouse and briefly at the BBC World Service. She has also served as a member of National Commission for Women.
