Katsande: Chiefs fans have a right to be angry

2019-05-30 11:22

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande believes he has a future at the club and added that fans deserve to be disappointed after a dismal 2018/19 season.

Chiefs finished outside of the MTN8 places for the next campaign in ninth while also suffering the ignominy of losing the Nedbank Cup final to minnows TS Galaxy.

Katsande had something of a mixed season in terms of his performances as in 2019 he fell out of favour under coach Ernst Middendorp, before winning his place back following some consistent displays.

Nonetheless, Katsande is 33 and with the club promising to make sweeping changes, it is unclear what his future might hold.

The Glamour Boys captain said: "Obviously if I'm here giving you interviews, it means I'm part of the future. Until I'm told that I'm not part of the future.

"At the moment, I'm a Kaizer Chiefs player and I'm the Kaizer Chiefs captain, so I'm here to speak on behalf of the team.

"Going forward, as a professional, you always plan for the future until tomorrow, when you get any news saying that you can't continue.

"I'm a big guy. I'm a big dog. I take any criticism because I've been in this game and in this team for long, and I know how to win.

"Obviously it's easy to point fingers because we are senior players, and when things don't go according to plan, we are there to be blamed.

"So, you take the criticism and turn it to positive, so that you come back with something to prove. I'm not bothered about it, because the fans are obviously upset because we never delivered trophies in the past four seasons, they have a right to be angry at us.

"We respect them, and you won't even hear me responding badly to them. I will actually tell them, you're really telling the truth, we didn't give our best.

"But what I can promise is to affect the future. I can't affect whatever happened yesterday, only what's going to happen tomorrow."
