PUNE: Gold ornaments and cash collectively worth Rs5.80 lakh were stolen from two flats in Kothrud sometime between 2.30am and 3.30am on Tuesday.
Police said the footage of CcTV cameras at one of the housing societies revealed that both the burglaries were executed by a gang of three men travelling in a white coloured multi-purpose vehicle. The police said the registration number of the vehicle, a Maruti Ertiga, was fake.
An officer said one of the housing societies had a watchman. “He was, however, fast asleep when the burglars entered the society in the car and drove out with the valuables after around half-an-hour,” Kothrud police inspector S S Khatke said.
Omkar Joshi (28) of Krishnasagar society in the Mahatma society area and Sagar Shinde (32) of Torna society in Shivtirthnagar lodged the complaints with the Kothrud police.
Joshi and his wife are software engineers and working with IT companies. “On May 24, they had gone to New Delhi with some personal work. They returned home on Tuesday afternoon and saw the main door of their flat open. They also found that gold and silver ornaments collectively worth Rs4.77 lakh were stolen from three cupboards in two bedrooms,” Khatke said.
Krishnasagar society neither has CCTV camera nor security guards, the officer said.
The three men then went to the estate agent Shinde’s flat in Shivtirthanagar. They broke the locks of the main door and stole gold ornaments and cash, collectively worth Rs1.03 lakh. “The security guard in the building was fast asleep when the incident occurred between 2.45am and 3.15am,” Khatke said.
Torna society has CCTV camerats that captured images of the three men and the car. “Both the burglaries were committed by the three men who used the white coloured vehicle.”
The police have started checking CCTV footages in and around the area to ascertain the route used by the trip after the burglaries. “Our probe is on,” the officer said.
