KOLKATA: Schools affiliated to the West Bengal government will reopen and begin classes, resuming from summer vacation from June 10. Education minister Partha Chatterjee on Thursday said that summer vacation which was earlier notified to remain till June 30 has been amended. “The schools – primary secondary will reopen on the June 10,” the minister added. He assured through his social media post that necessary notice will be issued by the education department and secondary cell in this regard.
In the evening, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education issued a circular and mentioned that in modifications of earlier Board’s order, it has been decided that all government, government sponsored and non-government aided and unaided schools will be reopened from June 10.
An order from the school education secretary Manish Jain had earlier in the day reached Madhyamik Board where it had been clearly said that considering the changed weather conditions, the department after reviewing has decided to reopen schools from June 10.
On Tuesday, Chatterjee had hinted at reviewing the earlier decision to keep the schools closed after the scheduled summer holidays.
"We are holding talks with the meteorological department to know the weather conditions. However, we are sending a file to CM and seeking her permission to prepone the reopening of schools after summer vacation. We are discussing if there is any need to extend the summer holidays after the original dates which were decided earlier," the minister had said on Tuesday. He also had said that after CM takes a call the school education department is likely to bring out a circular informing the change. Earlier, June 8 was the last date for summer vacations which were extended up to June 30 later due to extreme weather conditions. Now, the government is mulling to resume classes from June 10, Monday.
