Ferrari’s 166 Armada Will Make You Lose Track Of Time For Three Days This Fall

Regarded as the United Kingdom’s top concours event, the Concours of Elegance that’s hosted at the Hampton Court Palace between September 6 and 8 will see a spectacular display of classics and racers.

Among them, Ferrari will present several 166s, as part of their 70th anniversary celebrations of the wins obtained at Mille Miglia, Le Mans and Spa. Four 166MMs will gather on the former domain of Henry VIII, led by the ex-works #0008M that was piloted to victory at the 1949 Mille Miglia and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This is the only car ever to have obtained victories in both races, and was displayed, that same year, at the Paris Auto Salon.

Chassis #0010M will join the celebrations from its position as the winner of the 1949 24 Hours of Spa. This classic Ferrari spent the last 50 years in the United States, and will be making the trip to the event for the first time. The 166 Barchetta #0064M, which was owned by the late Gianni Agnelli, will be part of the display, parading its two-tone blue and green finish. But it’s not all about looks when it comes to this old timer, as it’s a former race winner at Spa as well.

Another model of significant importance to Ferrari is the third Barchetta ever made. It competed in the 1949 Mille Miglia, finishing 6th in class, and won the Villa d’Este concours 66 years ago. The automaker noted that “exactly 70 years after its first victory at Concorso d’Eleganza, #006M was once again crowned a winner at the event during its 2019 running”.

Visitors to the 2019 Concours of Elegance will also get to see two 212 Export Barchettas, which is the successor of the 166. Chassis #0078E won the 1951 Tour de France and the Torrey Pines the next year, and #0108E participated in the 1952 Mille Miglia.
