Handre Pollard's message to Chean Roux & Junior Boks

2019-05-30 10:21

Cape Town - Springbok flyhalf Handre Pollard believes the Junior Springboks have a good chance of winning the World Rugby Under-20 Championship, saying no side is unbeatable.

Pollard represented the Junior Boks in a total of 14 World Rugby Under-20 Championship matches from 2012 to 2014, scoring 141 points in the process. He captained the side in 2014 and won gold, bronze and silver in his time with the SA U20s.

"For the players, representing South Africa at U20 level will be the pinnacle of their junior careers and one they should enjoy from start to finish. As with anything in life, times change and if I had to give one piece of advice to the guys, it would be to appreciate every moment of this stage of their careers," Pollard told Springbok Magazine.

"Although the teams are very evenly matched at U20 level, no side is unbeatable and I know Chean (Roux, head coach) and his team will go to Argentina with that firmly in the back of their minds. "In South Africa, we have some of the best young rugby talent from any country in the world and I'm backing Chean and the SA U20s to be competitive yet again, and hopefully to bring home that gold medal that has been eluding us for the last number of years."

Pollard played for the Junior Boks in three different seasons, from when South Africa won the tournament in 2012 in Cape Town, in 2013 in France and 2014 in New Zealand.

In this year's edition of the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Argentina, South Africa will face Scotland, Georgia and New Zealand in the pool stages of the tournament on June 4, 8 and 12 respectively.
