Varanasi: Ramnagar police, on Thursday, arrested two persons with a huge consignment of smuggled
liquor worth Rs 10 lakh.
SSP Anand Kulkarni said that the Ramnagar police were busy in checking vehicles on National Highway-2 when they noticed a truck trying to dodge them in a bid to escape. On seeing it they chased the truck and caught it at some distance. Two persons on board- Ashok of Haryana and Mithun Kumar of Shahjahanpur- were arrested.
On checking the truck 4,440 bottles of branded liquor packed in 145 boxes were recovered. Police estimated the cost of recovered liquor as Rs 10 lakh. During interrogation, the arrested duo divulged that after procuring liquor from Haryana they were taking it to Bihar.
