Illegal structures being demolished by estate office staff on Wednesday
CHANDIGARH: A demolition drive was carried out in Khuda Ali Sher village by the team of estate office which demolished six structures falling outside the lal dora. The term ‘lal dora’ refers to the village land that can be used for non-agricultural purpose only or for support systems like livestock.
According to information, the estate office team demolished structures which were being constructed. The construction outside lal dora is also against the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The Chandigarh draft master plan-2031 had also pointed out that unauthorized constructions had come up on over 250 acres outside the lal dora in UT villages. Even villagers maintained that number of families living outside the lal dora for years and had all facilities such as water connection, power connection, ration cards and voter cards.

Recently, the Chandigarh Administration had issued a notification and had even clarified that the area outside the aabadi (populated) area of recently merged 13 villages, will continue to be controlled by the Punjab New Capital (periphery) control act, 1952, as applicable to union territory of Chandigarh.
Nazuk Kumar, sub divisional magistrate (Central) UT, Chandigarh, said they will continue with such drives in near future too.
