Nagpur: Aarju Gondane (29) and his younger brother Ankush (23) were sent to jail on Wednesday after they were produced before the court. The two brothers were held for allegedly assaulting cops on duty by driving their two-wheeler at them at the nakabandi point at Awale Babu Chowk.
Aarju, who was driving the bike, allegedly had a scuffle with sub-inspector Sachin Suryavanshi, who was leading the check point. Ankush, an engineering student, who is also preparing for competitive examinations, was seen by bystanders trying to stop his brother, and also requesting police to refrain from thrashing them.
It’s learnt the Gondanes were asked to stop their bike at the nakabandi for checking. Since they tried to drive past without stopping at the nakabandi, PSI Suryavanshi and cops under him grabbed the brothers, leading to a scuffle between them.
The Gondane brothers were produced before the court by Pachpaoli police, who sought magisterial custody for them. The court refused bail to the two brothers and sent them to jail under Magisterial Custody Remand (MCR).
It was this incident that was filmed by one of the onlookers, Rahul Khandekar, with his mobile phone camera. Khandekar too was caught by the cops, dragged to the police station, and thrashed. Later, Khandekar was slapped with preventive action despite not having any past criminal record.
