A young woman who fled her abusive relationship after falling pregnant was stabbed nine times after her ex-boyfriend - the baby's father - tracked her down.
If it wasn't for Kayla Witek's sister, she might well have died at the foot of a staircase at her parents' home in Victoria, but her attacker was sentenced to just 18 months' jail.
Ms Witek moved in with her ex-boyfriend when she was 18, he immediately took away her phone and belongings before cutting her off from her family, A Current Affair reported.

Her ex-boyfriend stormed into her parents house and stabbed Ms Witek nine times until her sister Tilly rushed in and rescued her
But when Ms Witek fell pregnant she fled back to her parents home, but he managed to track her down and attack her.
'He basically stabbed me in the back, I didn't feel anything, I fell down the stairs and then he just kept on stabbing me, that's when I started feeling it. I started screaming and that's when my sister came,' she said.
When her sister Tilly heard her screams for help she put her life on the line and rushed in to defend her.
'He tried to go at me a couple of times but I wasn't just going to leave her there,' she said trying to hold back tears.
Ms Witek was rushed to hospital with a punctured lung and a broken rib and back while her ex-boyfriend was charged with attempted murder.
However his charge would later be downgraded to to intentionally causing serious harm and he was given a jail sentence of just 18 months.
Because he is not an Australian citizen he is now awaiting deportation to his Middle Eastern country in a detention centre.
But Ms Witek fears he could be back on the streets at any time if he is able to remain in the country.
'There's no justice, I still have fears for me and my son,' Ms Witek said.

'He tried to go at me a couple of times but I wasn't just going to leave her there,' Ms Witek's sister Tilly (pictuerd) said while fighting back tears
