Hyderabad HC stays secondary grade teacher recruitment process

HYDERABAD: A vacation bench of the Telangana high court has stayed the ongoing selection process pertaining to the recruitment of secondary grade teachers in the state. The state’s school education department and the state public service commission have taken up the task of recruiting as many 5415 secondary grade teachers through a notification issued in October 2017.

P Ramakrishna and 26 other candidates who were qualified in the written examination but were not selected because they could not secure the required cut-off marks, approached the high court. Their grievance is that the authorities have published a select list which consists of the names of several candidates who were already selected for higher category of teacher posts.

The authorities have to obtain a note of relinquishment from them and delete the names of such candidates. Then the names of those who were lying next to the selected candidates could be considered. Such a process would help the petitioners. Though Rule 6A of Telangana State public service commission rules and the procedure framed by it say that opportunity should be given to the next candidates in case of relinquishments by selected candidates, the authorities did not follow the procedure properly, the petitioner’s counsel said and brought to the notice of the court a discrepancy in the order of a single judge in interpreting this order.

The bench comprising Justice M S Ramachandra Rao and Justice A Rajasheker Reddy stayed the selection process.
