Accused car park robbers' $1.7 million south-east Queensland haul

Almost $2 million worth of stolen luxury cars, jewellery and cash have been recovered in Brisbane after police arrested five people they believed to be involved.

Detectives arrested a 32-year-old Mount Gravatt East man, allegedly armed with a gun and a break-in toolkit, in a Logan car park on Monday.

The alleged ringleader has been accused of stealing 47 luxury cars and motorcycles and possessing $14,000 worth of drugs.

South Brisbane District Inspector Mark Thompson alleged the man had stolen Holden utes, BMWs and Audis from Brisbane’s north to the Gold Coast, including Norman Park, New Farm, Hamilton, Albion, Coorparoo, Eight Mile Plains and Southport.

“I would classify him as someone who is extremely motivated to live the lifestyle that he’s chosen, and that is to commit crimes to fund his lifestyle,” he said.

Police believed the man may have been staying in Airbnb properties and moving frequently.

Inspector Thompson said police were preparing to lay 61 charges on him; including theft, drug-related offences, breaking and entering and firearm offences.

Another 26-year-old woman has been charged with eight offences relating to the luxury car thefts.
